Kirkwood has a strong history of supporting mission teams and sending them to serve in places of need. In April 2016, Kirkwood members traveled to Punta Gorda, Belize with Rivers of the World (ROW) to share their faith while helping build sustainable latrines in the village of Santa Teresa, and helping to build and addition to a local church in the village of Aguacate. In 2014, Kirkwood sent a team to Belize to help build sustainable latrines and leading Vacation Bible School, again, in the remote village of Santa Teresa. In 2011, another Kirkwood Mission Team went to Belize to teach Mayan women in another remote villages sewing techniques using patterns and non-electric treadle sewing machines.
Our missionary spirit was also expressed when an adult team traveled in September, 2013, to New Jersey to participate in Presbyterian Disaster Assistance relief efforts following Hurricane Sandy.
Our youth participate in annual mission trips to serve around the United States. Teams of youth volunteers and their leaders have traveled to West Virginia, Chattanooga, Tennessee, and Louisiana to partner with Son Servants to provide relief needed. Also, our youth partnered with YouthWorks on their summer mission trip in 2015 to Wind River Indian Reservation in Wyoming, and in Summer 2016 to Taylorsville, NC (Blue Ridge Mountains).
